The Student Conference on Information Technology Education and IT Skills Competition (SCITE 2009) was held last January 28-29, 2009 at the Olongapo City Convention Center, Olongapo City. It was a yearly two-day event organized by the Philippine Society of IT Education Region 3 Chapter to increase the youth’s awareness in current and emerging ICT trends, promote global access to information and knowledge sources, and open learning opportunities and careers in ICT. The said event were participated by more than 1500 students from 40 different colleges and universities in the region. SCS delegates were three faculty members namely Mr. Brian J. Rafor, Mrs. Myrisa I. Balondo and Mrs. Clarissa P. Vicente, guiding 164 freshmen and sophomore students and coaching 16 contestants.
The competitions in the said event were the following: Pop Dance Competition, Chapter T- Shirt Design Contest, Reinventing the Invention, On the Spot SCITE Website Development contest, SSITE Digital Poster Making, SCITE Junior Quiz Bee, and Java Programming competition.
Among the said competitions the SCS bagged Champion in the On-the-Spot SCITE Website Development Competition with Angelie Faulve and Archie Carlo Cruz, 1st runner up in the Digital Poster Making Contest with Darwin dela Cruz, 2nd runner-up in the IT Documentary Film Making Competition with Clarizze Toribio, Archie Carlo Cruz and Michael Morales, and 1st runner up in the Pop Dance Contest with Jayson Perez, Clarizze Toribio, Sheila Coronel, Jonathan Maximo, Marilyn Cruz, Alvin Medina and Jayson Claveria. All the academic competitions stated above were coached and trained by Mr. Brian J. Rafor, Mrs. Myrisa I. Balondo and Mrs. Clarissa P. Vicente, IT and CS instructors under the School of Computer Studies.
Student research paper were also presented, our very own Network Voting System for Baliuag University Student Organizations Election presented by Shiela Coronel, a fourth year BSIT student was one of the four research paper chosen among 40 participating schools.
